이 書院은 1576년에 南冥先生의 弟子들에 의해 德山書院으로 創建되었다. 이후 壬辰倭亂으로 燒失되어 다시 重建하였고, 1609년에 德川書院으로 賜額받았다.
이 書院은 한편으로 春秋로 南冥先生에게 祭祀를 드리며, 다른 한편으로 江右地域儒林의 集會와 講學의 中心地가 되었다. 現在의 建物은 1920年代에 復元한 것이고, 오늘날은 先生의 誕辰日에 맞추어 每年 8月 18日南冥祭를 지내고 있다.

The DEOKCHEON-SEOWON, the oldest private school, was built as a Deoksan-seowon by Cho Sik′s diciples in 1576.
Affer that the seowon was burnt by Japanese Invasion and reconstructed during that period, and named as Deokcheon-seowon by the king. Those who pursues his spiritual idea worshiped Cho Sik at the place in spring and fall as well as became as the center of confucianist′s meeting and lecturing his greater thought. These days, the people who admires Cho Sik perform a memorable feast on his birthday.

Located : Duksan, Sichon-myun, Sanchon-gun

山天齋는 南冥先生이 61歲 때부터 돌아가실 때까지 生涯의 마지막을 보낸 곳이다. 先生은 이곳에서 國政에 대한 많은 獻策을 올려 國家의 大儒로 推仰받았으며, 높은 志操로 선비精神의 典型이 되었다.
또한 많은 弟子를 養成하여 後日壬辰倭亂이 일어났을 때 그들이 義兵將으로 活躍하여 國難을 克服하는데 크게 寄與하였다. 現在의 建物은 壬辰倭亂으로 燒失된 것을 1817년에 復元한 것이다.

SANCHEON-JAE is the place which Cho Sik spent his last decades from the age of 61. Cho Sik dedicated the books related with governmental affairs at this place and respected as one of the greater scholar in this Country.
His conspicuous fidelty became an important model as a spritual axies of scholars.
Many of his diciples involes an important role to overcome nation′s crisis as milita corps during the Japanese Invasion. The presant edifice was reconstructed in 1817.
